I-84 Exit 159 Tower Road IAMP
What
The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and Morrow County are working on a long-range plan for the I-84 Exit 159 Tower Road interchange. The goal of this plan is to protect the function of each interchange over the next 20 years as the area around it develops.
When complete, the plans may include strategies to improve:
- Traffic flow
- Pedestrian and bicycle connectivity
- Local street connectivity
- Safety
- Freight travel
The plans may also include modifications to public and private property access as parcels redevelop over time.
Why
Growth is expected near each interchange over the next 20 years. There are over 21,000 acres of land zoned for industrial or commercial uses, most of which is undeveloped, that would likely use this interchange as their primary I-84 access, given that the nearest interchanges are approximately 7.5 miles to the west and 4.8 miles to the east. Interchanges represent a significant investment by the public in the transportation system and it is important to protect that investment. Planning for the future now can help maintain or improve traffic flow and safety for all users of the system, while also avoiding the need for more expensive projects later on.
