Technical Tours
Three technical tours are currently being offered for Tuesday afternoon, July 23. Please review the descriptions of each tour below and complete a short survey to let us know which tour you are interested in. One or two options may be removed based on the responses received.
Tour A: Portland Regional Performance Measures & Adaptive System with TSP
This tour will focus on two regional major arterials on the eastside of Portland. The corridors are outfitted with performance measurement tools, including permanent BluetoothTM travel time & speed stations and field-based air quality measurement stations (CO, CO2, NO, NO2, wind, temperature). We will also tour along an implemented SCATS adaptive traffic signal control corridor that includes transit signal priority. Lastly, we will visit a major intersection which has a red clearance extension treatment implemented to enhance safety through the reduction of angle crashes. The tour will also include a stop at the Portland Traffic Management Center.

Tour B: Downtown Portland Multimodal Operations
This tour will focus on the signal timing elements that allow the multimodal environment of Downtown Portland to work seamlessly prioritizing modes and reducing delay for all users through targeted low cycle lengths. Specifically, the tour will include a field review of signal timing strategies along the Portland transit mall to accommodate light-rail, bus and auto traffic, facilitating non-stop LRT service between stations. The tour will also visit locations with block control for Streetcar and Light Rail operations to illustrate Streetcar priority and signal timing approach for merging Streetcar and LRT vehicles. The tour will also include a stop at the Portland Traffic Management Center.

Tour C: Pedestrian & Bike Signal Timing Treatments
This tour will visit examples of the unique, innovative treatments relating to pedestrian and bicycle facilities, operations and safety. Specifically the tour will include an active bike warning display for drivers near a location with a right hook crash history, a review of different detection technologies and their ability to reliably detect bikes, an intersection with bike signal indications and phasing. Lastly, the tour will include an intersection operating the Flashing Yellow Arrow left-turn indication dynamically to optimize safety, while limiting delay to vehicles through a gap-dependent conditional setting incorporating pedestrians.
